a pair of rare Norwegian Jaerhons chickens - (Batesville,MS for sale in Memphis, Tennessee

$75

Norwegian Jaerhons originated in Norway and were created by the Norwegian government. The Norwegian Government views these birds as being very valuable and are still used in commercial egg production. They even have a genetics bank to keep this breed from ever going extinct. They were imported to the U.S. in the late 90's. These chickens are the smallest body size compared to how big of eggs they lay, they are about the size of a larger BANTAM but lay a large to jumbo off white egg. They have been know to even lay 350+ eggs a year. I believe eventually they will rival the white legorn in the U.S. Commercial egg production. They are strictly egg laying chickens they will not make good meat birds due to their small bodies. The hens have been know to wear themselves out laying eggs. They have a very high feed to egg conversion ratio. It is very important to keep these birds on quality feed to keep the eggs coming! They are excellent free range birds, they are cold hardy and heat hardy. I've talked to a breeder who owned them in the snowy mountains of Colorado who had very good luck and as well talked to someone in the south LA near the Texas border who said they were even laying when the heat index was 115!!! They are excellent flyers and super people friendly, mine fly up on me to perch on my arm when I go to the feed them which to me seems very unusual compared to the many other breeds I've raised. The pair I have are about 9 weeks old now.
